This 1930s atlas was in very poor condition significant damage to the sewing, heavy breakage of the paper paper along the joints, many tears throughout the textblock, and damaging previous repairs using pressure-sensitive self-adhesive tape. The was also considerable damage to the case, which was breaking along the joints and fully detached at the front.

This was an extensive treatment which started with dis-binding the textblock so that tear and joint repairs could be carried out, primarily using re-moistenable tissue which was toned to match the textblock. The pressure-sensitive self-adhesive tape was removed mechanically and using solvents and gels. Layers of torn leaves and tape were float-lifted in a water bath. The textblock was re-sewn, using the original holes. The case was reconstructed via a textile spine lining and a hand-dyed cloth reback. Finally, the corners of the cover were stabilised using syringe injection of adhesive.
