Pressure-Flap Boxes

Pressure-flap boxes are drop-spine boxes featuring an extra flap hinged onto the base tray. This flap helps to prevent distortion of the material below and prevents books prone to distortion from pushing open the lid of the box.

This box features foam padding in the base tray to prevent the book from shifting and crushing a fold-out that extends beyond the head and fore-edge of the textblock and covers. The padded pressure flap prevents distortion of the alum tawed cover.

Pressure-flap box with false-bottom compartment

This pressure-flap box hold a Victorian carte-de-visite album. A pressure fit false bottom conceals a compartment to hold an extra carte-de-visite found hidden within the album during treatment; the pressure of the false bottom prevents distortion of the photograph below. Within the compartment, the carte-de-visite is enclosed in a photo-safe paper wrapper to protect the image.
